Ashbourne Country Leisure
At Stepladder we love to bring together and entertain familiar faces, and with summer (are we still calling it that?!) coming to an end what better idea could Ben have than to risk it all and spend the day outside(?!), in the country for a spot of clay pigeon shooting and fly fishing.
Faces from Great Portland Estates, Exemplar, Blackstone, Colliers, Hall Kemp, Greycoat and Viridis joined us for this event, and together, suited and booted in wellies, barber jackets and our finest hats we made our way to Battle, East Sussex to the beautiful Ashbourne Country Leisure Estate, where we were greeted by the character that is Douglas and his team, who did a fantastic job of looking after us on the day.
After some initial grumbling about the morning down pour, we started the day with clay pigeon shooting, and by surprise soon realised we had some undiscovered professionals in the group – not forgetting the other very special shooting talents that we also witnessed, we won’t mention any names! A few warm up shots later, the competition went off with a bang and in between ducking in and out of the pouring rain, we each managed to hit a target or two.
Having over worked the clay target thrower and now suitably cold and wet, lunchtime couldn’t have come round quick enough. We were treated to great food and bottle of wine or two before being kitted up and sent back out of the marquee to the river for fly fishing. Half an hour or so of patience and undivided attention to the perfect casting technique passed before surrendering to the rain and heading to local pub, The Ashes with Doug and his team in tow.
We finished off our day with a little awards ceremony, celebratory pint and for a lucky few, a taste of Doug’s homemade spicy hot sauce!!
All in all another great Stepladder day out!
