Cheers to Cooper & Southwark
61 Southwark Street, a development by HB Reavis, is prominently located on the junction between Southwark Street and Great Guildford Street in Southwark, an area which was once upon a time home to the Anchor Brewery – a brewery known nation-wide for its quality Ale.
The buildings new name, Cooper & Southwark, pays homage to the craftsmanship of the Coopers – the barrel makers, the workmen who hand-made and built the wooden barrels to store the Ale produced at the brewery. Although this craft is used less today, the precision, skill and hand work involved in the creation of these barrels is by no means forgotten.
We developed the phrase "Made for Work" from these values. To acknowledge the quality of design and work shown in something made by hand and the artistry of creating something for work, as we believe the area is built on just that. Cooper & Southwark is a brand that celebrates hard work, determination and craftsmanship.
So, with that in mind, we raise a Cooper & Southwark branded bottle of Ale (from its also branded authentic wooden case) and drink a toast to a history of hard work. Because what better way to celebrate hard work than with a nice cold beer. Cheers!
